The iconic annual Chennai flower show is now open in the Semmozhi Poonga botanical garden at Cathedral Road. More than 30 lakh varieties of flowers and flowering plants, brought from various parts of the country, would be on display at the flower show. Visitors can also purchase flowers and pots from the stalls here. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the flower show on January 2.

The entry fees are Rs 200 for adults and Rs 100 for children. The flower show is from January 2 to 19, from 10 am to 7 pm.

Types of flowers
Various types of roses, petunia, marigold, delphinium and begonia have been arranged here. The flowers grown in the horticulture gardens of the agriculture department in Ooty and Kodaikanal will be displayed mostly at the show. Besides, flower varieties have been brought from Krishnagiri and Hosur too. Meanwhile, the authorities said that organic manure and neem pesticides have been used on the flowering plants.

Hundreds of visitors are expected to visit the Semmozhi Poonga, which is a favourite hangout spot for city dwellers. The place is usually crowded, even on regular days. Former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi inaugurated the park, which sprawls over 8 acres, in 2010. More than 800 rare varieties of plant species can be seen here. Petunia marigolds, delphinium, and begonia are displayed this year, and these beautiful flowers charmed visitors last year, too. Animal and bird forms would also be made using flowers to attract children. The Chennai Flower Show ends on January 19.
