The summer special Ooty-Mettupalayam Nilgiri Mountain Rail service will begin at the end of March this year and continue until the first week of July. The toy service begins on March 28, Friday, at 9.10 am from Mettupalayam, and the train will reach Ooty at 2.25 pm. The train (06171) will be in service every Friday and Sunday. The return journey will begin from Ooty on March 29 at 11.25 am and reach Mettupalayam at 4.20 pm. The train (06172) will be in service on all Saturdays and Mondays. From Mettupalayalam to Coonoor, there will be 40 first-class and 140 second-class seats. From Coonoor to Ooty, there will be 220 seats, out of which 80 will be first class and 140, second class. The service will be on till July 7.

How to book tickets?
Visit the Indian Railways website or purchase tickets from the toy train station where you want to board the train. Reach the counter an hour before to ensure your ticket. The station code for Ooty is UAM, and Coonoor is ONR. Visit the website for more details. 
Tourists worldwide visit the Nilgiris this time of year to enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage Site mountain rail. The train traverses 206 bridges and 16 tunnels on its way. The Ooty-Mettupalayam service is one of India's six prominent toy train services.
