Some of them were busy making coconut chutney on a traditional grinding stone, while others plucked tender coconuts to drink, plaited palm leaves to make mats and tried their hands on Kerala sarees; though this may sound like a scene from a typical family meet in one of the Kerala villages, it was not so.
This was how the Responsible Tourism Project, introduced by Kerala Tourism, engaged a group of tourists from the United States in Kumarakom.
The tourism department held the village visit at Viruppukaala, a tourism village in Kumarakom.
From tapping toddy to making choir from coconut husk, the visitors were engaged in all village activities to give them a feel of the rustic life.
Here are some images from the visit.
