The forest department is all set to launch its ‘mazha yatra’, a monsoon trip through the woods at Athirapilly and Sholayar, on July 1. Each day, up to 50 participants can enjoy the beauty of the enchanting monsoon rains, pristine forests, and rare species of flora and fauna.

As the package offers, the super hit combination of boiled tapioca and chili chutney, accompanied by a cup of hot ‘karipetty’ (palm jaggery) coffee would be the perfect way to relax after getting drenched in the rains. For lunch, feast on piping hot rice with fish fries and eight other delicious dishes. The forest department will gift umbrellas and bags worth 200 rupees for all those who take part in this trip.

The one day trip will begin at 8 in the morning from Chalakkudy rest house in Thrissur and will end at 6.30 pm in the same place. Visitors will have to arrange accommodation themselves either at the rest house or elsewhere. The visitors can also enjoy the unique herbal gruel and avail the service of a guide. The tour covers the beautiful locales of Athirapilly, Thumboormuzhi, Charpa waterfalls, Vazhachal, Peringalkuthu, Aanakayam and Sholayar dam. The ticket fare would be 1000 rupees for a seat in the traveller van, and 1100 rupees for the bus. The van can accommodate up to 35 persons. For booking: 0480 2769888, 9497069888.
