The curious case of a couple, two bikes and a honeymoon trip

As soon as the bustle of a wedding gets over, one question invariably pops up. Ask any newly-wed couple, and they are sure to have encountered the query. Where are you planning to travel for your honeymoon? This question is a given, considering that almost all newly-weds pack their bags and dreams to destinations they believe would add some spice at the start of their married life.

While many opt for Ooty or Kashmir, there are others who think overseas and set off for the exotic locations of Singapore and Malaysia. The ones with a thinner wallet would settle for a Veli, Kovalam, Thekkady or Goa.

But then, not all are the same. Meet Gomathy Sankar and wife Lokavya Meenakshi Kurup, who have lined up a honeymoon trip from Kanyakumari to Rann of Kutch. The significance doesn’t end there. Husband and wife would soon be mounting their Royal Enfield Bullets, and no, they are not traveling on a single vehicle. They would have their honeymoon ride on two different Bullets, and they don’t have a well charted out road plan whatsoever.

Gomathy Sankar, who hails from Tirunelveli, and wife Lokavya, are on a mission wrapped in a honeymoon jaunt.  While Gomathy Sankar is an IT soft skills behavior trainer based in Chennai, wife Lokavya had been working as a scientist at the Bangalore National Centre for Biological Sciences. Lokavya hails from Anchalummoodu in Kollam and had been living with her two siblings and mother before they all decided to move to Coimbatore when Lokavya was 15.

Gomathy Sankar and Lokavya Meenakshi Kurup tied the knot on February 6 in Palakkad. The surprise came when Gomathy Sankar gifted his wife with a Bullet mobike on the day of the marriage reception two days later, which had only close relatives and friends in attendance.

With husband and wife proud owners of two Bullet motorcycles, they decided to go on an India jaunt, starting with Kanyakumari. On February 16, before starting off from Kanyakumari, Lokavya christened her new vehicle Sundarimani. The trip started along the coastal highway and the couple hopes to stick on to the seaside route, though they may have to take detours in between as the roads may not always permit the coastal road. With a distance of around 3800 km to be covered, they look forward to touching Rann of Kutch in 20 days.

The couple would be riding all through the day and resting during the nights. As the itinerary has not been planned, stay and food would be wherever they would feel like. On reaching Kollam, Lokavya’s uncle’s home at Moonnamkutty Faridia Nagar welcomed them with open hands, where they spent that night. On reaching Kochi, they would have a brief stopover at Fort Kochi to go around the Biennale venues.  And then on they will go to Rann of Kutch.
