Mayicha: Everywhere you look, you see people busy weaving palms fronds for preparing the pandals where Theyyam performance will be held. There is a palpable anticipation in the air. For it is the first time after thirty years that they are gearing up to celebrate the Theyyam kettu at Mayicha Kolivalappil Tharavadu. The Theyyam kettu is organized under the auspices of the Vayalkkara Bhagawathy temple of Mayicha – Vengattu. Preparations are underway for constructing the pandal for the Theyyam kettu which begins in first week of April. Hundreds of men and women have been working on building the backstage, granary, holy site and canteen. People, both young and old flock to the places. The Theyyam kettu is from April 3rd to 8th. The Wayanattukulavan Daivam kettu which is confined to the northern soil happens in the southern border of Kasaragod district only in Mayicha village. Massive preparations are on for the Theyyam kettu which is expected to cost Rs 40 lakhs. Cutting of Pala tree, planting peg for the maiden granary, Koovum measurement, etc will take place in the coming days.
