Your trip to Thirunavaya is incomplete without this boat ride | Video

Thirunavaya, on the banks of the Bharatapuzha, about 10 kms away from Tirur in Malappuram district, is a historically and culturally important place. A trip here is incomplete without a visit to the Navamukunda temple, the venue of the age-old tradition of Mamangam and several vedic study centers.

The Navamukunda temple is also famous for 'bali tharpanam,' the offering to a departed family member. Thousands gather at this temple for offering respects to departed souls. A visit to the Brahma temple and the Siva temple across the river is part of this pilgrimage. The devotees had to take a detour and travel along a round about road to visit these temples.

Now, the DTPC has come up with a ferry service connecting these three temples. You can ride down the river to the other temples from Navamukunda Temple ferry.

The Navamukunda temple is more than 5000 years old and has been renovated time and again. While at the temple, do visit the Nilapadu Thara, the place where the Mamamgam was held, the Marunnara, where they kept the medicines, the Manikkinar and Changampally Kalari among other relics.
