Kizhoor aqueduct: Star of several super hit films

Cherpulassery: An aqueduct that has appeared in many Malayalam movies is now a big tourist attraction here. Kizhoor aqueduct is located in a place surrounded by paddy fields, palms and forested hills. There greenery of the area is striking. More people arrive to enjoy the scenery on festive occasions like Eid, Christmas, and Onam.

The aqueduct is not far from the Ananganmala eco-tourism project at Panickerkunnu in Kizhoor. Most of the visitors to the eco-tourism centre make it a point to reach the aqueduct also.

Mohanlal's 'Aaraam Thampuran,' Rajinikanth's 'Muthu,' Dileep's 'Ee Puzhayum Kadannu' and Jayaram's 'Karunyam' are among the films shot at this location. In addition are hundreds of Malayalam and Tamil films, TV serials and albums starring other actors. Now, newlyweds throng the place for their wedding photo shoot.

The aqueduct was built around three decades ago for supplying water to the farmlands. With a road on top and the canal below, the design of the structure leaves visitors in awe. Paddy and vegetables grow in abundance around the aqueduct. The hills in the background and the swaying palms add to the scenic beauty of the spot.

Earlier, at least one scene in every Malayalam film which had Ottapalam as location used to be shot at the aqueduct. However, over the last couple of years, filmmakers have largely ignored this attraction.
