Travelling with children? Note these points

Holidays may necessarily involve a lot of journeys. Some preparations are required while travelling with children. Kids of up to five years need special considerations.

Children are more prone to falling ill during the journeys. Unhygienic sources of food and water can easily result in diarrhoea, dysentery etc. Injury due to falling, fever owing to some infection etc. are also more common among children. It would be prudent to make some space for carrying basic medication in the baggage.

Sweets and other food items kept in the open are bad for children and adults alike. As a general rule, food and water from unhygienic surroundings are best avoided. To improve personal hygiene while travelling with infants, along with diapers, wet-wipes may also need to be carried. A wet wipe at the change of diapers will help a long way in preventing infections.

When travelling to places that are likely to be crowded, it will be a good idea to give the children the phone numbers of the parents. This will help locating the children more easily in the event of them getting lost in the crowd. Some books, toys etc. may be carried to keep the children occupied and to break the monotony of the journey. All these and other personal belongings may be carried by the children themselves. However, it is important to keep the luggage light.

If contemplating a journey with children, it is necessary to do some advance planning. A hurried start of the trip is very likely to result in leaving important things behind. Children will get affected more than the adults if important items that are meant to be carried are left out.
