Thiruvananthapuram: The Malindo Airlines is curtailing its Thiruvananthapuram-Kuala Lumpur services that would prove to be a setback to travellers to the eastern countries.
The Malindo service would be stopped from June 7. The Malindo's connection service was a huge boon to travellers to Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Thailand.
The Malindo service was the most sought after by tourists from Kerala. The permanent travellers from Tamil Nadu to Malaysia also depend on this service. Good service and low fares are the most attractive features of Malindo.
The service that started four years ago is being curtailed now due to the dip in the number of passengers.
Malindo authorities said that their flights registered less than 60 per cent of the passengers even during peak season. Thus, it was not profitable to continue the service at low fares, they added.
The services are being curtailed even when uncertainty continues over the move to hand over the operations at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport to private parties.
Good news for travellers to Saudi Arabia
Meanwhile, the IndiGo would start new services to Dammam, that is likely to provide some relief to travellers to Saudi Arabia. The services would be started from March 7.
The flight would start at 1.55pm from Thiruvananthapuram and reach 5.05pm at Dammam.
The return flight would start at 12.55am from Dammam the next day and reach Thiruvananthapuram by 8.20am.
As the ticket fares are relatively low, the service is likely to benefit travellers to Saudi Arabia. As the service starts in the afternoon, it would be more convenient for travellers from neighbouring districts and even those from Tamil Nadu to reach the airport.
