Some useful tips for solo women travellers

solo

A solo trip is still a big challenge for many women because of security concerns. Even though there are a number of destinations that are safe, many women are apprehensive about going on their own and for all the right reasons. Here are some tips to overcome such fears and enjoy a solo journey.

The first step is selecting the right travel bag. Experienced travellers say a backpack is the most ideal form of luggage and one that can accommodate all your items. Apart from a big bag, a handbag to keep some cash, phone, headset and similar things can be purchased. While travelling in trains, remember to lock the bag.

Two other essential items are a pocket knife and a pepper spray. Pepper spray is the best defence against a physical attack and it should be kept at an easily-retrievable place in the bag along with the knife.

Another point to note is cash. Only a limited amount has to be carried, that, too, in a money belt and not in purse. Similarly, Aadhaar and other identification cards have to be kept at a place from where they can be accessed quickly. Along with these items, essential medicines should be carried.

Advance booking of safe and cheap accommodation and deciding on the places to visit would also ensure a hassle-free journey. Moreover, search and find good eateries where the rates are not steep before starting the trip.

However, when travelling abroad, check whether a knife and pepper spray would be allowed on the flight.
