KTDC hosts foreign tourists amid COVID-19 lockdown

COVID-19 outbreak has left the tourism sector in chaos. Foreign tourists who had arrived in the state before the lockdown got stranded here. However, the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation has been working hand in hand with the state government in its fight to tame the pandemic. The various hotels operated by the KTDC have taken up the responsibility to make the necessary arrangements for the stranded foreign tourists.

The KTDC hotels and resorts have been providing food and accommodation facilities for the foreign nationals who are trapped in various parts of the state. These arrangements have been made, following preventive protocols, as per the directives of state and local governments and the tourism department as well.

The KTDC Samudra hotel had accommodated more than 200 German tourists, who tested negative for COVID-19, until arrangements were made for them to return to their country. A tourist who had stayed here shared her experiences on social media. She said that the KTDC had provided excellent service to the group during the time of their stay at the hotel.

Dileep, the general manager of the Mascot Hotel said that the KTDC has been arranging various facilities for the tourists who are being evacuated by the government. The hotels in various districts have been accommodating the tourists who test negative for COVID-19, as per the government instructions. He added that the staff try to make the tourists feel comfortable and at home until they can leave for their homelands.

Currently, most foreign nationals are being hosted at KTDC's Samudra hotel in Kovalam, the Bolgatty Palace in Kochi, Garden House in Malambuzha in Palakkad, the Kumarakam Gate Way at Vaikom and the Ripple Land in Alappuzha. Dileep said that the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram is well equipped to handle any emergency situation.

Staffs are ready

The managers and other staff at these hotels have volunteered to work with the state government in tackling the crisis. As the staff cannot leave the hotel, the KTDC has assured them all the help and support. Besides, the KTDC is responsible for their safety as well. The accommodation facilities for the staff have been arranged in the vicinity itself. Moreover, the authorities ensure that the staff can maintain social distance in their work place as well. The authorities have provided sanitizers, hand washes, gloves and masks for the staffs at the KTDC hotels.
