The number of visitors to the popular tourist destination in Thrissur district, Peechi Dam,  has increased manifold after the first phase of the beautification of the botanical garden.

The panoramic view of the Peechi dam and the botanical garden is jaw-dropping and this surreal setting is attracting hundreds of people to the dam area. The one-km walk through the botanical garden would give one a feeling of trekking through forests.

The Peechi dam, which was closed for seven months in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, was recently reopened for visitors.  Now, there is a marked increase in the tourist footfall at the dam area and the security personnel are finding it difficult to control the heavy rush of visitors.

Close to 2,000 people visited the dam on Sunday and the ticket revenue touched Rs 30,000.

The number of visitors has increased as children below the age of 10 and people above the age of 60 were denied entry earlier, due to epidemic-induced restrictions.
