KSRTC's 'sleeper buses' parked at Munnar depot a big hit

Munnar: There is a huge demand for the unique accommodation provided by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in two of its buses parked at the popular hill station of Munnar in Kerala's Idukki district. Each of the air-conditioned buses has 16 beds which are rented out on a daily basis to tourists.

KSRTC launched the facility on November 14 this year and the buses were fully occupied on most days. Moreover, the corporation has earned revenue of Rs 55,280 in 15 days from renting out the beds in the buses, which are stationed at the KSRTC depot in Munnar.

The tariff is a mere Rs 100 per bed and an extra Rs 50 for a woollen blanket. Travellers can book the beds by paying the amount at the counter of Munnar KSRTC depot and occupy their places in the bus after 5 pm.

As the buses are parked at the KSRTC depot itself at night, travellers staying in the buses can use the washrooms there. For food, the guests can choose from the several eateries and restaurants nearby.

Even though there are 16 beds in a bus, the KSRTC would allow one or two persons to book an entire bus by paying Rs 1,600. For details, contact Munnar depot of KSRTC on phone number 04865 230201.
