The temperature dropped minus 2-degree centigrade in Munnar

Munnar: With the mercury dipping to sub-zero levels, frost has covered many areas in Munnar. As the temperature was minus two degrees Centigrade on Thursday, the meadows were blanketed with frost and snow.

Apart from Munnar, severe cold weather is being experienced in Vattavada also. While the mercury level was minus one degree Centigrade at Pambadumshola on Wednesday, similar conditions existed at Pazhathottam, Chilanthiyar and Kadavari in Vattavada panchayat also. Farmers in the area said that this was the coldest weather experienced in the region during the past five years.

The local people believe that the appearance of frost suggests severe water shortage in the area in the coming days. Moreover, as any further fall in temperature could also adversely affect crops, vegetable farmers in Vattavada are concerned.

Munnar

Munnar is known the world over for its misty tea gardens, scenic hills, paths covered with fog, and cool climate. There are also several pretty streams that gently cascade down the rocky ledges. The sights, sounds, and smells of Munnar captivate eyes as well as the mind.

Munnar got its name from the three rivers - 'aars' in Malayalam - that flow in the area. There are Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundali. Munnar is located between the panchayats Pallivasal, Devikulam, Marayur, Mankulam, and Kuttampuzha.
