Kayaking in Kottathodu Lake attracts adventure enthusiasts to Kumarakom

Kumarakom: The Kottayam District Tourism Promotion Council has begun kayaking in Kottathodu Lake as part of promoting adventure tourism. Twenty-six kayaks, including single and double seaters, have been arranged for the adventure enthusiasts here. This is DTPC’s first such project in the district which has ample scope for water sports.

The project is executed with the cooperation of Sree Narayana Public Boat Race Club. Meanwhile, the responsibility of running of the project has been leased to a private firm.

The project was inaugurated by State Minister VN Vasavan. The meeting was presided over by Kumarakom Panchayat President Dhanya Sabu.

“The project has been introduced after ensuring all the safety measures. It will be run by a private firm which is experienced in this field. They would also give training in kayaking,” Dr. Bindu Nair, DTPC Secretary.

The fees
You can hire a single seater kayak for Rs 400 while it is Rs 500 for double seater (excluding GST).

How to reach
The office is near the Kottathodu Lake where the Sree Narayana Jayanti boat race takes place annually. Kottathodu Lake is on the north side of the Attamangalam Church on the Kottayam–Kumarakom route.
