Thiruvananthapuram: On the account of World Tourism Day, people's representatives in Kerala have been busy promoting the tourism potential of their respective regions or the state at large.

General Education Minister, V Sivankutty, adopted a 'filmy' approach to draw attention to the region surrounding the Vellayani Lake in Thiruvananthapuram that falls under his assembly constituency, Nemom.

It was a modest stone bridge, colloquially called 'Kireedam Bridge' or 'Thilakan Bridge', situated in the locality that minister Sivankutty used as a reference point to promote 'Vellayani'.

Minister Sivankutty introduced the bridge as "the main character" from Sibi Malayil-directed Malayalam classic 'Kireedam' which was released in 1989.

"Sethumadhavan walks back over this bridge. It is here that he spent romantic moments with Devi and where he sat with his friend Keshu," minister Sivankutty noted in a Facebook post.

For those who don't know, Sethumadhavan is the protagonist played by Mohanlal while the roles of Devi and Keshu were portrayed by Parvathy and Sreenath respectively.

The film is popular for its gripping story, masterful performances and evergreen music done by Johnson.

Minister Sivankutty said in his post that a special project will be launched for developing the region into a tourism destination. "Boating and facilities to munch on local delicacies will be readied to lure tourists to the region," said the minister.
