Boating attracts tourists to Idukki dam

Cheruthoni: Tourists are flocking to enjoy a relaxing boat ride in the Idukki dam which is almost full as a result of the heavy rains and monsoon. The number of visitors to the dam has gone up after the lockdown restrictions have been relaxed.

The boat services begin at 9 am and runs continuously as tourists keep coming throughout the day. A boat can accommodate up to 20 passengers at a time. The service which begins from the boat landing in Vellapara runs till Idukki and Cheruthoni dams before returning.

The travelers can spot many wild animals including elephants at the wildlife sanctuary that is on the banks of the dam.

The ticket fare is Rs 145 per head for a half an hour ride. Meanwhile, it is Rs 85 for kids. The boats and the equipment are sanitized after each trip before boarding the next set of passengers. The boating is part of the eco tourism project run by the Wildlife department in Idukki dam. Boating services are open everyday to attract the tourists.
