KSRTC's double-decker treat for foodies now open in Vaikom

Vaikom: The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC)'s Foodie Wheels, a bus cafe, was launched in Vaikom on Monday. Facing the backwaters at Vaikom, stands a swanky new restaurant inside a KSRTC bus, that too a double-decker. The bus cafe was inaugurated by Tourism Minister PA Muhammad Riyas in the presence of Transport Minister Antony Raju.

KTDC chairman PK Sasi and KTDC director VR Krishna Tejas IAS were also present in the function.

The old KSRTC bus has been beautifully remodelled by interior designer Sabu and his team of experts from Thiruvananthapuram-based interior design company Inspace Interiors. The construction is like a deck on top of a bus. The ground floor is completely air-conditioned and the open-air restaurant upstairs offers dining facilities.

Fifty people can dine on two floors at the same time. The area around the bus is tiled and decorated with colourful umbrellas.

KTDC also serves food suited for foreign tourists. They are also providing modern washrooms. If successful, the project will be extended to other KTDC centres. KTDC's existing boat model restaurant on the beach has also been renovated.

Vaikom is the first venture with KTDC under the KSRTC Food on Wheels project.
