Old numbers of COVID-19 special trains restored

Chennai: The Southern Railways has reverted to the original numbers for 314 trains as they were before the COVID-19. These trains have been running as special services due to the pandemic situation. Now, the services would be operated as per the original timetable. The train services in the country were stalled in 2020 March when the country went into lockdown due to the pandemic outbreak.

However, the trains were given new numbers when the services were resumed as specials in June this year. The new numbers that were given to the special services have been cancelled now. Those who have booked their tickets using the old train numbers could travel in those trains.

While the mail and express trains have reverted to the original numbers, 39 festival special trains that charged three times more than original ticket fare would now run as regular services with normal ticket rates. Even though the train numbers change, the reservation in the general coaches would continue.

The ticket rates in trains like Kochuveli – Mysuru, Ernakulam – Okha, Kanyakumari – Bengaluru Island, Thiruvananthapuram – Secundrabad Sabari, Thirunelveli – Bilaspur and Kochuveli – Indore would now have regular ticket fares.
