The speed of 19 trains conducting services along the Kottayam route would increase after the double track is inaugurated later this month. This is because these trains are currently held up at various stations for crossing for 20 – 45 minutes, which could be avoided when two tracks are operational. Subsequently, the running time would come down.

The Thiruvananthapuram division of Southern Railway has already recommended revision of the timetable of these trains.

The trains are: Guruvayur-Punalur Express, Sri Ganganagar – Kochuveli, Bengaluru – Kanyakumari Island, Visakhapatnam – Kollam, Shalimar – Nagercoil, Bhavnagar – Kochuveli, Secunderabad – Thiruvananthapuram Sabari, Kurla – Kochuveli, Ernakulam – Kollam MEMU, Thiruvananthapuram – Chennai Super, Palakkad – Tirunelveli Palaruvi, Nagercoil – Gandhidham, Kanyakumari – Katra Himsagar, Nagercoil – Shalimar, Thiruvananthapuram – Mangaluru Malabar, Kochuveli – Kurla, Thiruvananthapuram – Secunderabad Sabari, Kochuveli – Yeswantpur Garib Rath and Nilambur – Kottayam.
