Tirur: The Railway has improved and updated the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) App to make it more popular. The app enables purchase of unreserved train tickets online, avoiding queues at railway stations.

Ordinary general tickets, season tickets and platform tickets are available from the app. According to railway authorities, crowding in front of ticket counters could be reduced when a large number of passengers have downloaded the UTS App.

The previous version of the app did not function in a radius of 15 m around railway stations. This drawback has been rectified in the latest version. Currently, passengers can purchase unreserved tickets also by scanning the QR code displayed at railway stations.

App usage details
Railway authorities informed that 2.5 crore passengers used the UTS app between April 2022 and January 2023. The app earned a ticket revenue of Rs 24.82 crore for the Railway. However, reserved tickets cannot be bought with the app, the authorities said.

How to use app
UTS App could be downloaded from Google Play, Apple Store or Windows Store and registration should be completed with an OTP received on the mobile phone.

Subsequently, give the option for ‘paper’ or ‘paperless’ tickets. Then, select the normal booking option and enter the starting station and destination. Press ‘Next’ to proceed.

Enter the number of passengers, select train type and choose the payment option. The total ticket fare would then be displayed. Click on ‘Book ticket’ on this page and make payment to receive the ticket.

During checking on trains or platforms, click the ‘Show ticket’ option to display the ticket to the Railway official.

If you had selected the ‘paper’ ticket option, obtain a print from the ATVM (automatic ticket vending machine) or approach the ticket counter at the station with the booking ID.

No excess charges
You have to pay the same amount for tickets in the UTS App as from the counters at railway stations. Payment options include UPI, Net banking, credit cards and R Wallet.
R Wallet should be recharged before use. Recharge could be done by clicking ‘Recharge R Wallet’ in the UTS App and transferring money to the R Wallet. Railway offers a bonus of three-percent for payments done through R Wallet.
