Due to landslides reported near Kakkithu and Anathodu on the way to Gavi, the tourist spot has been closed. There were landslides at many spots on the Angamoozhy - Gavi road, the main road of the area, said officials.

Owing to continued threats of landslides, access to Gavi has been temporarily suspended, according to the Goodrical Range Office.

A forest range officer said, "We can't say when the road will be cleared, but the works are on. JCBs have been employed to clear the debris at the earliest."

Heavy rain had wreaked havoc in the area surrounding the Moozhiyar Dam, the reservoir of the Kakkad hydroelectric project, on Friday evening.

Three shutters of the dam were raised by 30 cm each at 7 pm after the water level rose dramatically. Two of the shutters were closed later.
