Veeyapuram Chundan emerges winner of Champions Boat League 2023

Thrissur: Veeyapuram Chundan of Pallathuruthy Boat Club emerged champions of the third edition of Champions Boat League 2023 organized by the Department of Tourism in the Kottapuram backwaters near Kodungallur in Thrissur district on Saturday.

United Boat Club, Kainakari’s Nadubhagam Chundan and Police Boat Club’s Mahadevi Kadavkattil Thekethil Chundan finished second and third respectively.

In the Muziris Water Festival, Pojanathamma Vallam and Gothuruth Vallam emerged victorious in categories A and B respectively.

Nine teams selected from throughout the state competed for the CBL trophy. Also, as part of the Muziris Water Festival, a set of Iruttukuthi Odi Vallangal, very popular in central Kerala, vied for the coveted VK Rajan Memorial Trophy and KD Kunjappan Memorial Trophy. Nine boats participated in the A grade category and 10 in the B grade category.

A cultural gathering and traditional art forms were also staged as part of the event.

Inaugurating the race, Revenue Minister K Rajan said the state government aims to utilise the tourism potential of Kerala to the maximum and is trying to find business opportunities for the youth and clubs through such festivals.

Kodungallur Municipality chairperson TK Geetha, Benny Behanan MP and VS Sunilkumar MLA among others were present and distributed prizes to the winners.
