M2M service provider Sensorise has reportedly launched India's first-ever consumer travel eSIM aka embedded SIM card, which offers worldwide connectivity sans a physical SIM card. An eSIM is a digital SIM card that lets users subscribe to internet packages without physically replacing their phone's SIM card and help access mobile plans across countries. The service, which can be availed for less than 10 dollars, is expected to be accessible in more than 190 countries through the Sensorise mobile app. The app also offers more than 1,000 customizable plans, as per reports.

A service introduced for leisure and corporate travellers, students and frequently touring professionals, it might become an affordable alternative to the existing roaming facilities provided by mobile network operators. The users can scan a QR code and enable connectivity. A the recently held India Mobile Congress 2023, Sensorise announced its plan to launch the consumer travel eSIM and said that it will eventually eliminate the need for a physical SIM card replacement.

Last year, Apple phones went 'eSIM only' in the US with its iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. They are among the first smartphones to adopt eSIM-only functionality. Even earlier, eSIM-only phones were introduced by Motorola through their first-generation Razr flip phone.
