Sources said this is the first such a large number of long-distance train services have been cancelled in one go. “Normally, instead of cancelling services, alternate routes are announced for long-distance trains whenever such week-long or major works are announced. This arrangement would adversely affect the passengers for sure,” said a source. At the same time, railway authorities said such arrangements are a usual affair these days. “If you notice, under the Modi government, a lot of infrastructural and developmental activities are taking place at a fast pace in the railways across the country. This should be considered as a minor inconvenience for a better future,” said a senior official from Thiruvananthapuram railway division.
