Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Road Transport Corporation is all set to begin a super-fast premium AC bus service to elevate the travelling experience of the passengers. The bus that can accommodate up to 42 passengers would have comfortable push–back seats and wifi connectivity. Sliding glass windows too are there, in case the air conditioning in the bus doesn’t function. Meanwhile, the tickets are a bit pricier than the regular super–fast busses. Besides, a small amount would be charged for the wifi at the time of reservation.

The current fleet of low-floor AC buses would be limited to the city routes when these premium busses begin operating long-distance services via the main roads and highways. Interestingly, companies and firms could hire some of these buses for their private use. Even though orders for 48 buses in the super-fast premium AC category have been placed, the corporation plans to build a fleet of 220 buses. The authorities have entered into a contract with the manufacturers Tata and Leyland companies regarding the same. The estimated price of a bus is Rs 36 – 38 lakhs. Minister KB Ganesh Kumar said that the busses would arrive within forty days after finalising the contract.

These buses would stop only at the main depots. However, those who book tickets by paying an additional Rs 10 could board the bus at the stop of their choice. The Google map location of the boarding spot should be shared at the time of booking itself.
