Shoranur: The Railways is considering extending the Thiruvananthapuram – Shoranur Venad Express to Nilambur. PP Suneer MP had submitted an appeal to the Railway Minister to schedule the Venad Express to suit the passengers’ convenience after the electrification works are done. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had promised that he would consider the demand. Now, the Venad Express that starts from Thiruvananthapuram at 5.20 am reaches Shoranur at 12.25 pm; the return journey begins at 2.35 pm from Shoranur.

However, the authorities have been looking for ways to accommodate the Venad Express, which has 24 bogies at the platform in Nilambur that can only take 14 bogies. Meanwhile, the Railways is also considering extending the Rajyarani Express (16349) that reaches Nilambur in the morning to Ernakulam as a daytime service. The Rajyarani Express, a daily train, starts at 9 pm from Thiruvananthapuram and reaches Nilambur at 6.05 am. This train is then halted there until the return service at 9.45 pm. The authorities are considering operating this train to Ernakulam during the daytime.
