There are countless applications online that can provide information about the live running status or schedule of your trains. ‘Where is my Train’ is one of the most popular apps for tracking trains. Rail Yatri and Ixigo are also used by passengers to know the status and schedule of trains. However, the railways do not recommend using such third-party applications to gather information related to train timings.

The Indian Railways recommends its official NTES application to know the train timings, schedules and other important information. The railways state that accurate and official information is only shared via the NTES app regulated by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS. If the information provided in this app turns out to be false or incorrect, the passengers can file complaints against the railway or sue for compensation. Meanwhile, private apps mostly rely on GPS data to provide the train's running status. So, it is likely that these apps are not properly updated.

The National Train Enquiry System, or NTES, provides real–time information about train schedules, live running status, rescheduling, cancellations, delays, and other essential information. The NTES app can be downloaded from the Play Store or App Store. Passengers can also browse the NTES website online.

Here’s how to use the app
The first step is to download the NTES app. On the home page, you will find information like spot your train, live station, train schedule, and trains running between stations. The passenger can get all the details related to trains by providing the train name and number.
