Dream of the Desert: A sneak peek into Saudi Arabia’s royal train journey

Luxury train journeys have always enchanted tourists all over the world. Saudi Arabia is the latest entrant into the world of luxurious train travel, as the country launches its first luxury train, ‘Dream of the Desert,’ in 2026. Passengers can enjoy a delightful train ride through the vast expanse of desert landscapes that offer breathtaking natural scenes. The train offers world-class facilities and exuberant interiors that pay homage to Saudi Arabia's vibrant cultural heritage.

Moving palace
The Dream of Desert’s 14 carriages will have 34 luxurious private suites. The lavishly designed interiors draw inspiration from the deserts of Saudi Arabia. The opulent interiors feature shades of hues inspired by the hot sand dunes of the desert, luxurious upholstery, and intricately carved ornamental pieces. Each suite will have private baths that promise luxury and indulgence. Some suites may even have hot bathtubs. Sipping cold champagne in the hot tub while enjoying the scintillating desert landscape will be a unique experience.

Meanwhile, the menu has been curated carefully to cater to the guests' palettes. From traditional Arab dishes to international cuisine, the guests can choose from hundreds of dishes prepared by internationally renowned chefs using fresh ingredients. The extravagant lounges are the perfect spots for the passengers to rest, read books or even enjoy warm conversations with their loved ones. Some lounges will even have glass ceilings, turning the starry sky into a roof at night. Besides, specially designed cigar bars and mini cinematic lounges will make the train journey an unforgettable luxury experience.

Local art forms, music, and legends will be incorporated into the premier train journey by cooperating with the cultural ministry. The Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR) has been working with Italian hospitality company Arsenale Group to design and commission the Dream of the Desert.

When adventure meets heritage
Hejaz Railway, a historic railroad connecting Damascus and Medina, has been a symbol of spiritual reckoning and unity. Drawing inspiration from this legendary train service, Dream of the Desert will reimagine a train journey through the spectacular desert landscape by adding a touch of modern luxury. The train departs from the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, and runs to the northern province of Al Qurayyat. The passengers will get a chance to see historical places like Hail and many UNESCO heritage sites along the way.

When will it be launched?
The Dream of the Desert will likely make its inaugural journey by the third quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, the price of the tickets and various tour packages will be announced soon.
