The Kerala High Court has banned single-use plastic items in 10 tourist spots of the state. The plastic ban will come into effect from October 2 at the following places:
1) Munnar
2) Thekkadi
3) Wayanad Heritage Museum, Ambalavayal
4) Karlad Lake, Wayanad
5) Nelliyampathi
6) Athirapilly
7) Chalakkudi - Athirapilly sector
8) Bathery
9) Pookode Lake
10) Vagamon

The banned items include
1) Water bottles under 5 litres
2) Soft drink bottles under 2 litres
3) Plastic straw
4) Plastic plates
5) Plastic cups
6) Plastic spoons
7) Plastic knives
8) Plastic food containers
9) Sachets
10) Plastic bakery boxes

What should tourists do?
1) Carry reusable bottles and cutlery while travelling
2) Carry drinking water with you while travelling
3) Opt for environmentally responsible tour agencies, resorts and homestays as far as possible
4) Support local vendors who sell items in wrapped in environment-friendly products like banana leaves, palm or coconut leaves.
