Abu Dhabi: The UAE passport has solidified its position as one of the world's most powerful passports. A UAE passport holder now receives visa-free access to 179 countries worldwide. In the recently released Global Passport Index by Arton Capital, an international finance consultancy, the UAE passport secured the top spot. It also ranks ninth on the Henley Passport Index. UAE passport holders can arrive at countries like the United Kingdom, Thailand and Japan with a visa on arrival. One hundred thirty-two countries grant UAE passport holders visa-free entry, while 47 countries offer a visa on arrival.
Around 90 per cent of countries worldwide have relaxed their visa rules for UAE passport holders. Only 19 countries require a pre-approved visa for UAE passport holders to enter their country. UAE passport holders can stay in Japan for up to 90 days. Such relaxations are available for individuals entering Japan for employment or leisure activities. The latest visa guidelines came into effect yesterday in Japan.
Meanwhile, UAE passport holders travelling to Thailand for leisure and treatment can apply for an online entry card. They need to complete the registration process just three days before the day of travel. UAE citizens entering Thailand for leisure can stay visa–free in the country for up to 60 days (which can be extended for one more month) and up to 90 days for medical treatment and educational purposes. In the UK, UAE passport holders are required to obtain an electronic visa, which will be available within three days of application. This electronic visa enables a UAE citizen to stay in the UK for up to six months irrespective of their purpose of visit, including employment, treatment, education and leisure.
