Wayanad Kalpetta: With the monsoon at its peak, the third edition of the 6-day long ' Wayanad Mudfest-Season 3' will start from July 12 onwards. It is organized by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) to promote monsoon tourism and will be inaugurated by Tourism P A Muhammed Riyas near Saptha Resort.

The inaugural event, a mud football tournament, will be held at Sulthan Bathery on the day. Sixteen teams, with eight members in each team, will participate in the event. The winners who achieve the first four positions will receive cash awards. The prize money for the winners of first, second, third, and fourth places is Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 4,000, and Rs 4,000, respectively.   The 'mudfest' is supported by various organizations active in the tourism industry, and also various government agencies, apart from the Kerala State Department of Tourism. 

Other events of the fest
Alongside mud football, the other items of the event include tug of war, mud kabadi, kayaking and monsoon trekking. The venues of the events will be across the district. 

Mud Football and Mud Tug-of-War: The mud football and 'Mud Tug-of-War' events, organised by various tourism organisations including media, tour operators, and travel agents, are scheduled for July 13. The competitions for 16 teams, with 7 participants each, would be held at Sulthan Bathery on the same day.  The cash awards for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions would be Rs 10000, Rs 5000, Rs 3000, and Rs 2000, respectively. 

Kayaking Competitions on July 14: The kayaking competitions (100 meters) organised in connection with the mudfest would be held at the Karlad Lake on July 14. The registration fee for participation is Rs. 500 per person.  The cash prize for the first four positions is Rs. 10,000, Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000, respectively. 

Mud Kabadi competitions on July 15
The 'Mud Kabaddi' competitions of 16 teams with 8 participants in each team, would begin at Valliyoorkavu temple premises, on July 15.  The registration fee for each team is Rs 500. The cash prize for the first four positions is Rs. 10000, Rs 5000, Rs 3000, and  Rs 2000, respectively. Minister for SC/ST  Welfare O R Kelu would inaugurate the valedictory function, to be held at Valliyoorkavu temple premises on July 15. 

Monsoon Trekking: A monsoon special Rock Adventure Trekking programme would be held for 50 trekking enthusiasts, to the Cheengery Trekking trail, on July 17, the last day of the event.
