A cloudburst hit the Dharali and Tharali villages near the Gangotri and Kheer Ganga region of Uttarkashi today around noon. It triggered flash floods and landslides, which are feared to have destroyed many hotels, homestays, resorts and more, as per reports. Many are also reportedly missing and trapped under the debris. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITPB), and State Disaster Response Force(SDRF) forces jumped into action immediately, and the state has heavy rainfall, flood and landslide alerts till August 10. Safety warnings, areas to avoid
1) Senior officials have urged all to remain calm and stay indoors, unless evacuation is ordered. Stay away from damaged structures and water bodies. 
2) Uttarakhand Police have requested not to risk lives for selfies, bathing or any kind of thrill-seeking activities during the floods. 

3) Rescue ops have instructed travellers to avoid the Harsil, Dharali and riverbank settlement areas of Uttarkashi. Pilgrims also avoid staying away from the Char Dham pilgrimage route. 
4) Cancel non-essential trips to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir until further notice. Postpone or cancel treks, pilgrimages and any adventure sports to the region.
