Alappuzha: The new amendments in the code of conduct for the teams participating in the iconic Nehru Trophy Boat Race on August 30 have been approved, taking the number of guidelines from 22 to 29. Last year, the event was followed by many complaints about its results, starting procedure and jury decisions. While 'Karichal Chundan' of Pallathuruthy Boat Club (PBC) won against Kainakary Village Boat Club's Veeyapuram Chundan for a few seconds, the runners-up had lodged complaints on alleged irregularities and starting mechanisms.
Major amendments
1)The number plate should not be tied in front of the boat; the number printed on the sticker should be pasted right behind the hull.
2)Five pillars of the same shape and size would be placed at the finishing point. Cameras would be installed on both sides of these pillars to capture the visuals of the boats crossing the finishing line.
3) An individual timing system based on a virtual line would be installed at the finishing point.
4)The timings and places of the boats would be accurately displayed on the screen.
5)The timings of the boat would be marked in three-digit numerals (minute, second and millisecond). If more than one boat marks the same finishing time, then the winner would be determined in a draw. In such cases, the boats could share the trophy for six months each. Meanwhile, the authorities would also rely on draws to determine which team could keep the trophy during the first six months.
