Malappuram: In a major relief for the commuters who reach Nilambur railway station during the night, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has introduced two new bus services following a request by MLA Aryadan Shoukath.

The first service is scheduled to connect with the arrival of the Shoranur–Nilambur passenger train, which reaches Nilambur at 8.45 pm. This KSRTC bus will depart from Nilambur depot at the same time, reach the railway station at 8.55 pm, and proceed via Chungathara, Edakkara, and Moothadam to Palengara. MLA Shoukath will inaugurate the service on September 3.

The second service will cater to passengers of the Ernakulam–Nilambur MEMU train, which arrives at 10.05 pm. The bus will depart at 10.15 pm from Nilambur station, travelling via Chungathara, Edakkara and Vazhikkadavu before terminating at Marutha.

Until now, passengers arriving at Nilambur during night have been relying on autorickshaws, which charge an exorbitant rate. The new services are expected to provide affordable, safer and more convenient travel.

The buses will also improve onward connectivity, enabling passengers to reach Nilambur station in time for the Rajya Rani Express to Thiruvananthapuram. Authorities said that the move is part of efforts to enhance last-mile transport options in the region.
