The annual Aranmula Uthrittathi boat race, which features 'palliyodam' boats from 52 regions of Aranmula, has begun this year in Pathanamthitta with the celebratory water procession. The race, known for its unique boats, boat songs aka vanchipattu, paddling strokes, studded umbrellas and more, will kick off its race segment soon. As opposed to many previous years, the event is enjoying a pleasant climate this year. The racing part of the Aranmula boat fest started in 1972 on the Pamba and ever since, has enjoyed consistent fandom.
