Tirur: Despite increasing the number of Vande Bharat trains running through Kerala from two to three, the railways have permitted a stop at Tirur station for only one train. Tirur had a halt in 2023 during the first trial run. However, the stop was lost when the train was extended to Kasargod in the second trial run. The Vande Bharat Express trains (20633 and 20634) that run between Kasargod and Thiruvananthapuram speed past Tirur without stopping here. Meanwhile, the railway authorities have not provided a clear explanation for why these trains do not stop at Tirur.

The Vande Bharat trains (20632 and 20631) running between Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru Central, which stop at Tirur, are often overcrowded. This is the second Vande Bharat train that was allowed for the state. Passengers had been urging the authorities to allow a stop at Tirur since September 2023, when this train was flagged off. Malayala Manorama had also organised a campaign for this purpose. The halt was allowed at Tirur for this Vande Bharat train following such campaigns and appeals.

The railways then made the stop permanent after seeing the number of passengers boarding and getting off at Tirur. The passengers are upset that the elected representatives and political leaders are not taking up the issue seriously enough or interfering in it.
Stops of the new Vande Bharat
The new Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat train is expected to have these stops - Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Salem. As per reports, it will leave Bengaluru at 5 am and reach Ernakulam by 2 pm. It is expected to be launched by mid-November.
