Construction of the new dormitory at the Munnar KSRTC depot for budget travellers will be completed within a month. The new facility will replace the old sleeper coaches arranged as accommodation in the old Munnar depot. The dormitory can accommodate up to 40 people, and there will also be two luxury rooms. The authorities aim to complete the construction and open the dormitory for the visitors within a month. When the dormitory opens, the old sleeper coaches will be scrapped.

Meanwhile, the dormitories are built with removable iron frames rather than conventional concrete mixtures. In 2021, accommodation facilities were arranged for tourists in old bus coaches. Up to 140 persons could sleep in ten such coaches. KSRTC charged Rs 220 per night for this facility. Besides, there were additional charges for blankets and hot water.

Minister Ganesh Kumar, who was in Munnar in February this year to inaugurate the double-decker bus service, had promised to arrange better accommodation facilities for tourists and to avoid offering accommodation in old bus coaches that do not meet modern standards.
