Vayanashala, the association of KSRTC employees and their families, is launching an initiative called 'Pusthaka Koodu' for the passengers waiting at the depots. The first 'Pusthaka Koodu' or collection of books with 250 books was inaugurated today at Kannur. It will also soon be opened at the Kasargod, Payyannur, Thodupuzha, Parashala, and Cherthala depots. The books would be collected directly from publishers and from library staff. Meanwhile, the Puthaka Koodu, which will be open 24 hours, will be staffed by library staff.

The authorities had granted permission for this project, stating that no fees should be charged to passengers for reading books here. Pusthaka Koodu will be rolled out across all depots if it is successful in the six depots in the initial stage. PV Ratheeshan, the patron of the Kasargod unit, said that volunteers from all over the state are part of this project. Meanwhile, conductor PV Shiny has been entrusted with running the Pusthaka Koodu at Kannur.
