Kerala Vande Bharat trains get new menu: Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options

Time and again, railways have come under flak for the poor quality of meals on Kerala's Vande Bharat trains. There have also been complaints that the food served isn't tailored to Malayalis' tastes. Since last year, authorities have been trying to include more local flavours in the train's menu. Now, the latest revised menu in the Vande Bharat train from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod offers three types of menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner on different days. Here are the details:
Lunch and dinner vegetarian menu for vegetarians
•Ghee rice, wheat porotta, dal curry, thoran and fruit truffle
• Matta rice, 2 chapathis, theeyal, vegetables in roasted coconut gravy, adaprathaman payasam
•Vegetable biryani, Malabar porotta, green peas in coconut milk gravy, potato masala, semiya payasam
Non vegetarian menu
•Ghee rice and chicken in roasted coconut gravy
•Matta rice with Malabar chicken curry
•Chicken biryani
Meanwhile, the Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services (CAFS) authorities, who serve food on Vande Bharat trains, said that fish curry would be served with matta rice in executive classes.
Vegetarian breakfast menu
•Idli, vada, sambar and unniyappam
•Idiyappam, Bengal gram curry, vada and tea cake
•Mixed vegetable upma, vada, sambar, chutney and vattayappam
Non-vegetarian breakfast menu
•Scrambled egg, two vegetable cutlets, unniyappam and bread roll
•Idiyappam, egg roast, vada and tea cake
• Scrambled egg, masala bun, two vegetable cutlets and vattayappam
These three options will keep changing. Passengers can also enjoy delicious snacks such as ilayada, dal fritters, kozhukkatta, and spinach fritters on various days. CAFS corporate chef C Gunasekhar, who curated the menu, said that the meal trial on board for the last two weeks has been receiving favourable responses from the passengers
