At a time when many countries are introducing Ebola-related travel restrictions, the Indian government has also brought out a fresh advisory on the matter. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in India at the moment. It said that passengers who have travelled to countries affected by the virus and have any particular symptoms should inform local health authorities and also isolate themselves.
The advisory says, "If you have travelled from or transited through an Ebola-affected country in the last 21 days and develop symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, isolate yourself and inform health authorities."
New Ebola helpline
In case of any assistance required, passengers can contact the helpline at 1075. A few days ago, the government also said that passengers should consider avoiding travelling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the epicentre of the spread, as well as Uganda and South Sudan.
As of now, the virus has been declared a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organisation.
Tensions brewing in Kenya
A major protest has broken out in Kenya following the United States setting up of an Ebola quarantine facility at a military base in the country, at a time when the African nation has no active cases. Two people were also killed in the protests, though the country's president, William Ruto, defended the plan, stating it was a wider national preparedness plan.
The local community in Nanyuki, where the centre is located, said they feared the facility could expose them to the virus and that Kenya should host this centre for US citizens.
