Malaysian PM's Kozhikode visit: Traffic curbs from 5 pm today

Kozhikode will be under heightened security and traffic restrictions this evening (September 13, Sunday) as Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrives to meet Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar at the Markaz Central Campus. More than 800 police personnel have been deployed for the visit.

Kanthapuram will present Anwar Ibrahim with the first Excellence Award instituted by the Sheikh Aboobacker Foundation during the meeting. Apart from the local police, personnel from the KAP, RRF, ADS and police commando wings too will be deployed for security, surveillance and intelligence duties. ACPs and inspectors have been assigned specific areas.

Traffic restrictions
The restrictions will come into effect at 5 pm today and remain in force until Monday evening. Passengers are advised to plan airport and railway station travel early. Police have advised people to avoid travelling to the city as far as possible this evening. Here are the details:
a) Complete traffic restrictions will be imposed from Vaidyarangadi to Malaparamba and from Malaparamba to Kunnamangalam-Madavoor.
b) Vehicles coming from the Wayanad side should enter the city via Thamarassery, Balussery, Nanmanda and Eranhipalam.
c) Vehicles from the Koduvally side should take the Padanilam-Kalarikkandy-Varattiyakk-Peringalam route, while those coming from the Mukkam side should use the Chethukadavu-Peringalam route.

d) Vehicles from the Elathur side should take the Pavangad-Nadakkavu route, while those coming from the Thenhipalam side should use the Idimuzhikkal-Ramanattukara-Feroke-Cheruvannur route.
e) Vehicles leaving the city should proceed towards Kunnamangalam via Medical College, Mundikkalthazham, Kottaparamba and Mannanath Road.
f) Vehicles coming from the Malaparamba side should take the Pulikkadavu-Iringadan Palli-Mundikkalthazham-Kottaparamba-Mannanath Road route towards Kunnamangalam.
g) Passengers travelling to the airport and railway station have been advised to leave early to avoid delays.
h) No parking will be permitted on roads from Malaparamba to Kunnamangalam-Madavoor.
i) Traffic will be brought to a complete halt while the Malaysian Prime Minister's convoy passes through the city.
