Mumbai to Bengaluru Vande Bharat sleeper train to cut travel time to 16 hours

Passengers travelling between Mumbai and Bengaluru will soon enjoy a significantly faster and more comfortable journey as Indian Railways prepares to launch the new Vande Bharat sleeper train on the route. Expected to roll out by the end of this month, the high-speed overnight service is set to drastically reduce travel time between the two major cities.
Faster travel and improved connectivity
Currently, conventional train services between Mumbai and Bengaluru take nearly 24 hours to complete the journey. The new Vande Bharat sleeper train, capable of hitting speeds of up to 160 km/h, will trim the travel duration down to around 16 hours, saving passengers up to eight hours of travel time.
Proposed route and schedule
To avoid disrupting busy suburban local train operations in Mumbai, officials are planning a late-night departure schedule from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The service will operate along the CSMT, Pune, Solapur, and Wadi route. While the exact weekly frequency and ticket pricing are expected to be finalised in the coming days, the introduction of sleeper-class Vande Bharat coaches marks a major upgrade in long-distance rail travel in India.
