Pondicherry: SFI has won the student council election of the Pondicherry Central University by winning 10 out of the 11 seats. SFI, the students' wing of the Communist Party of Marxists, lost only the joint secretary post in the students' union. This is the first time in the history of Pondicherry University that any students' organisation has won the student council poll without any alliance.

Junaid Nazar has been selected as the president, while Shonima Nelliat and Sugadev V were elected as the male and female vice-presidents, respectively. Padakanti Shiva Rama Krishna is the new secretary.

In the council election, the winning members from the other campuses of Pondicherry University in Karaikkal, Mahe, Andaman & Nicobar Island also cast their vote to elect the panel members. The representatives of the Podicherry Community College too voted.

School unions

Meanwhile, union elections at schools on the Pondicherry University campus concluded on October 23, with the SFI securing a clear majority in 27 seats.

"The unconditional support of ADC (Alliance For Democratic Campus) comprising the ASA, MSF and SIO helped SFI to win the council election of this academic year," said a student representative.
