Social campaigns serve a purpose with its persuasive manner. The idea that is being conveyed through every campaign is very important and it has great relevance in our civilised society. '#MeToo,' which is a recent drive run on social media platforms, reveals sexual abuse faced by women. Many welcome it as a platform encouraging and empowering women so that they secure the freedom to live unharassed.
Many women in India and abroad have come forward and shared the experience with the hashtag of ‘Metoo’. But the online movement could be used to easily harass somebody or it can be used as a weapon against men to settle scores. Even though the judicial action will be taken followed by inquiry it is sufficient to defame a person. For example, if a woman writes about her sexual abuse at the hands of a person who is now dead, it cannot be inquired into. If the charge is fake, it is an injustice to the deceased person.
Interestingly, adultery is a noncriminal offence and harassment is a punishable crime in our country. Even though both are different issues, judicial action in the latter case, especially when arising out of adulterous affairs, could result in unfavourable action to one party.
The warmth and affection in man–woman relationship will also get badly affected by ‘#Metoo’ campaign because everyone who is involved in a relationship will be very much concerned about likely ramifications and hence brain works more than mind and soul!
