India’s road to the future

India’s road to the future

India can don the title of a continent on its own. Her magnificent plurality can never truly be summarised in a sentence, let alone in a whole book. Perusing through history you can witness, the massive growth, this diverse nation has achieved in the past century. Its space agency can launch 1000-plus satellites in one go; its formidable army can bring the enemy to their knees. The country seems to be on the highway to prosperity; yet it is debatable whether we have reached our spot on the pedestal. With several villages yet to cast out darkness after sunset and over many children undernourished, it is high time we balance the prosperity many parts of the country has.

The problems never cease even as the resources never seem to be enough. But with 1% of the population earning as much as the rest, the lack of resources does not seem to be the root cause of the problem, rather the imbalance in their ownership. Being the biggest democracy in the world, our judicial system seems to reek of injustice, time to time. The noose tends to go loose on the rich while being too tight on the poor. The slow pace of the bureaucracy is also a matter of concern, with over millions of cases yet to hear and many taking over a decade for justice to be served. Each set of government seeks to solve the mistakes of the previous one, but creating new problems of theirs in the process.

While on one side we boast of some advances in medicine, on the other side we have the cries of millions of patients who are barred the basic medical facilities. The recent incidents of mass deaths in government hospitals showcase the sad truth of the above statement. We have under our belt an educational system that the world envies. Alumni of some of our institutes head some major global corporations. But movies like “Why Cheat India” seem to lift the veil and expose the devil lurking beneath.

So it seems like we have many more milestones to cover before we bask in the glory of success. To achieve this, we must eradicate the perils of poverty, misery and deprivation. This is not an impossible if we unleash the true potential of our unity in diversity.

There is a large unmet demand in the field of infrastructure. The roads are like the veins of the country. They are to be strengthened and made more branched. They are to be made to reach each and every corpuscle. Let the richness of the country flow through and gear her forward.

Let us work together towards a future where at night not even a single village bask in darkness by making sure electricity reaches each nook and corner. Researches should be promoted for finding alternatives to fossil fuels. Promoting the concept of starting from the basics, let us work with our villages and fuel them forward. Rather than bringing the village to the cities let us bring the cities to the villages. By conducting surveys and proper funding we should plan out the right kind of development plans suited to each village. Basic amenities must be provided and ensured to each individual regardless of caste and creed. It must be made possible to accord for the primacy of villages and that the residents of them are the first charge of the nation’s resources.

Ancient history resonates with the glories that our education system provided. Let us bring back this glory. By ensuring every Indian is educated, so that he may distinguish right from wrong and cast away those taboos that plague our societies. To make sure our identities don’t limit our potential. Let our schools and colleges be a haven for learning and not for breeding hatred and violence.

Underlying all these activities on the national-building front is the need to reform politics and governance. Our country, as we speak, is falling into a morass of crime and capitalism. Let us break free from it. Let this be our battle cry as we march towards our glorious future.
