The students at Marian College in Kuttikkanam in Kerala's Idukki district got a glimpse of how a UN Conference takes place when a mock-up miniature of the United Nations General Assembly was held here on Monday.
Christened 'Marian MUN 2019', the model conference focused on the topic' Legalization of Marijuana'. The conference was held jointly by the Marian college chapter of Action by Students to Promote Innovation and Reform through Education (ASPIRE), the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) program, and Kerala Cultural Forum, an NGO.
The student delegates of MUN 2019 represented 46 member states of the UN General Assembly.
The mock-assembly conducted discussions with Jasrel L Thaddeus acting as Chairperson.
The final resolution was presented by Tiya Mary Andrews, Vice-Chairperson of the General Assembly.
"It is the first time a MUN has been conducted in Idukki district. We also feel the immense pleasure that we did it in the silver jubilee year of our college," Adarsh Anil, the student coordinator of UNAI Marian and the Secretary-General for MUN 2019 said.
The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is an initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the UN in supporting and contributing to the realization of the United Nations.
"Marian MUN 2019 aimed at developing public speaking oration, leadership qualities, networking and delegating, personal growth, and encouraging students to address global issues and make them aware of the happenings in United Nations General Assembly," said Suzanna Oommen, the representative of Focal point, UNAI Marian.
Connecting, Networking and Delegating is the motto for MUN 2019.
