NIFT courses: Apply online by Jan 21

Applications for various courses at the 17 campuses of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), including Kannur, can be submitted online till January 21.

The application fee is Rs 2000, and Rs 1000 for those in the SC/ST and differently-abled categories. Applications can be submitted till January 24 with a late fee of Rs 5000.

Programmes

A) Bachelor of Design (BDes): Four years. Fashion/ leather/ textile/ knitwear/ accessory design/ fashion communication. Those who have completed plus-two or have an AICTE-recognised diploma (not less than three years).

B) Bachelor of Fashion Technology in apparel production (BFTech): Four years. Plus-two qualification with maths, physics and chemistry subjects or an AICTE-recognised engineering diploma (not less than 3 years).

C) Master of Design (MDes): Two years. University graduate or diploma (minimum of three years) from the NID or NIFT. Candidates should have an understanding of the fundamentals in designing.

D) Master of Fashion Management (MFM): Two years. Undergraduate degree or a diploma (minimum three years) from NIFT or NID.

E) Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech): Two years. BFTech from NIFT or BTech from any institution. Final year students can apply. There is reservation.

Courses at NIFT Kannur

The Kannur NIFT offers BDes undergraduate programmes in fashion/ textile/ knitwear design, fashion communication; BFtech in apparel production, and master programmes in design/ fashion management.

34 seats for undergraduate courses and 35 for master programmes. Also, additional seven seats for the state domicile in each of the programmes and three seats for NRI/ foreigners.

Exam centres at Kochi & Kannur

The entrance exam for all programmes will be held on February 14. The exam will be held at 32 centres, including Kochi, Kannur, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Delhi,

For BDes and MDes programmes, a creative ability test (CAT) will be held in addition to the General Ability Test (GAT). For BDes programmes, those who excel in the written test will be called for a situation test. There is no situation test for BFTech. Group discussions and interviews will be held for PG programmes.

The fee for four-year bachelor programmes will come up to Rs 13 lakh, apart from the accommodation expenses.
