In case marks are considered instead of grade points, the applicants should have scored at least 60 per cent. Meanwhile, the minimum grade points average for Scheduled and differently-abled categories is 5.5 and marks 55 per cent.

Another condition says that members of the public wishing to pursue PhD should be working in institutions having a conducive environment for research as per KTU norms. Applications from PG students now in their Final/Pre-final semesters would also be considered, subject to certain conditions, says KTU.

Selection process

The first part (A) involves a written test on aptitude for research having 35 marks. While questions for 18 marks would be on analytical skills, five marks are for English and 12 for research methodology. The cut-off is 3.5 marks.

The second part (B) would have questions on the subject, also of 35 marks. The cut-off is 14 marks.
